Partial Panel Approach

Purpose
Be able to still fly an approach and land in IMC even primary flight instruments become inoperative.
Equipment Failure Under IFR
- When IFR, report any navigational, approach, or communication equipment failures that occur in flight

- Aircraft identification
- Equipment affected
- Degree to which the capability of the pilot to operate under IFR in the ATC system is impaired
- Nature and extent of assistance desired from ATC

- Discussion around ADM should failures occur
- Equipment malfunction under IFR AIM 5-3-3
- Report loss of any equipment which may impair safety and/or ability to operate under IFR
Partial Panel Approach
- Use timed / compass turns as required
- Use magnetic compass / turn coordinator / GPS for heading
- Use airspeed / VSI / altimeter for pitch
- Request a "no-gyro" approach if necessary
- Radar approach
- Half standard rate turns
- Zoom in on MFD moving map and keep airplane on magenta line
